After undergoing breast reduction surgery on December 21st, the patient didn’t get to see her new breasts until the following day due to the bandages. During her first post-op appointment, the patient noticed something was off with her right breast, but the nurse brushed it off and scheduled her for another appointment five days later.
During that second appointment, the nurse discovered that the patient had necrosis, which was not mentioned to her after the surgery. The nurse assistant who treated her later informed her of the severity of her condition, and the patient began researching necrosis on her own.
Her did not come to see her after she woke up.
The patient’s doctor, Dr. Christopher M. Dress did not come to see her after she woke up from the surgery, and she only saw her once via Facetime weeks later. The patient learned how to care for the necrosis from the nurse assistant, who warned her that the tissue around the affected area might start to fall apart, and her nipple might die.
She was not mentally prepared for the rest of her breast to fall apart. The anchor stitches were coming apart, causing the rest of the breast to fall apart. The patient was changing the bandages every day and tried to contact the nurse for help, but to no avail. The nurse advised her to use Manuka honey to help with the open tissue wounds, but it wasn’t working.
Eventually, the patient went to the emergency room with her mother, and a doctor took a picture of her scars to update her medical file. The doctor couldn’t reach the plastic surgeon who performed her surgery, so they sent her home without any treatment. The patient’s checkout papers contained referrals to other surgeons, but no one was available until March, which was too far away.
The patient scheduled an appointment with her primary care doctor, who promised to help re-bandage her wounds. However, when she saw the wounds, the primary care doctor was shocked at how bad they were. She called several surgeons until one agreed to take the patient in, and the doctor and nurse’s assistant helped the patient re-bandage her wounds.
